Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (Capital Markets in Africa):- The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSEI) gained by 45.68 point or 1.63 percent to close at 2,739.56 point and market capitalization recorded at TZS 24,885.06 billion, an increase of TSZ 394 million. Likewise, the DSE TSI advanced by 75.18 points or 1.60 percent to close at 4778.39 points.
Today, DSE recorded a total turnover of TZS 10,395.38 million from 796,501 shares traded in 67 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 149.72 million from 35,328 shares traded in 63 deals. On Pre-Arranged board, Tanzania Breweries Limited had 680,500 shares traded at TZS 15,000 per share in 7 deals. Foreign investors bought a total of TZS 10,308.60 million accounted for about 99 percent of the total market turnover. As a result, foreign investors are net buyer and local investors are net sellers with turnover of TSZ 10,207.05 million.
The market sentiment was positive today, with 8 advancers and 2 decliners. Tanzania Portland Cement Company Limited recorded a lost of 0.28 percent with a closing price of TSZ 3,500 and Uchumi Supermarket Limited fell by 4.35% to end at TSZ 220.00. On the gainers’, was the highest gainer, edging up by 5.64 percent to close the day at TZS 6,180.00. Dar Es Salaam Community Bank and Tanga Cement Company dropped by 1.25 percent each to close at TZS 790.00 and TZS 3,950.00 respectively to emerge today’s top losers. Tanzania Breweries Limited, Jubilee Holdings Limited, Acacia Mining PLC and National Media Group were the top four price gainers, by gaining 3.45 percent, 3.32 percent, 1.39 percent and 2.47 percent respectively.
From the sector perspective, Industrial & Allied and Banks, Finances & Investment sector indices ended in positive, by adding 2.13 percent and 0.40 percent to close at 6,203.25 point and 3,527.92 respectively.
